The Lodge’s wooden furniture was built in the W.P.A. woodworking shop run by Ray Neufer in Portland. Textiles were created in Portland by the Division of Women’s and Professional Projects of the W.P.A. led by interior designer Margery Hoffman Smith. The Lodge was built and furnished by local artisans during the Great Depression using Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.) and Federal Art Project funds, opening to the public in 1938.
