TitleEleanor Room, closed drapes and studio couch, Timberline LodgeDescriptionClosed drapes and a studio couch in the Eleanor Roosevelt Room in Timberline Lodge. The Eleanor Roosevelt Room is a deluxe guest room that was occupied by Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt during a September 1937 visit to Timberline Lodge. Room 107 in the west wing was called the Eleanor Roosevelt Room for many years but has since been renamed the Solomon Seal room. The Lodge’s wooden furniture was built in the W.P.A. woodworking shop run by Ray Neufer in Portland. Textiles were created in Portland by the Division of Women’s and Professional Projects of the W.P.A. led by interior designer Margery Hoffman Smith. The Lodge was built and furnished by local artisans during the Great Depression using Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.) and Federal Art Project funds, opening to the public in 1938. It is a National Historic Landmark.TypeStillImageFormatimage/jpegDate1935-1943LocationTimberline Lodge, Clackamas County, Oregon, United StatesSubjectTimberline Lodge (Mount Hood, Or.)Neufer, RaySmith, Margery Hoffman, 1888-1981Rightshttp://rightsstatements.org/vocab/CNE/1.0/CollectionHistoric PhotographsW.P.A PhotographsTimberline Lodge Photographs
