TitleTimberline Lodge Dedication with President RooseveltDescriptionPresident Roosevelt’s motorcade arriving at Timberline Lodge for the dedication on September 28, 1937. President Roosevelt gave a dedication speech from the terrace, after which a lunch was held for about 150 guests. Eleanor toured the building with the architect Turner after lunch, and the presidential party departed soon after that, declining to stay the night and instead heading to Seattle to see their daughter. The Lodge was built and furnished by local artisans during the Great Depression using Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.) and Federal Art Project funds, opening to the public in 1938. It is a National Historic Landmark.TypeStillImageFormatimage/jpegDate1937-09-28LocationTimberline Lodge, Clackamas County, Oregon, United StatesSubjectTimberline Lodge (Mount Hood, Or.)Rightshttp://rightsstatements.org/vocab/CNE/1.0/CollectionHistoric PhotographsW.P.A PhotographsTimberline Lodge Photographs
