Dawson, the lead blacksmith for Timberline Lodge’s blacksmith shop in Portland, works on the iron gates for the entry to the Cascade Dining Room. The gates were made without rivets or bolts, weighed 1,100 pounds and are over seven feet tall and ten feet wide. The Lodge was built and furnished by local artisans during the Great Depression using Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.) and Federal Art Project funds, opening to the public in 1938.
