Predecessor to the Economic Research Service, the Bureau of Agricultural Economics (1922-1953) conducted studies and disseminated information relating to agricultural production, crop estimates, marketing, finance, labor, and other agricultural problems. It also served as the central planning agency for economic and statistical research in the Department of Agriculture.
