It cost travelers -- both vehicles and horses! -- five cents to cross the bridge. There were two lanes of traffic, one in each direction, as well as a streetcar. Today we celebrate the bridge's birthday and acknowledge that the original span is 105 years old -- and not built for the needs of today's travelers.
